The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Might Solve This

As any major awards ceremony draws close, one notices a demand for the addition of new categories to honor overlooked contributions and satisfy the spirits of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.

Another commentator has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. The same goes for board games, which is someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward just as with other single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification supporting my request stands as crucial and important of all. The demand is this: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it’s very subjective, and inevitably start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that cinema institutions avoid this approach. But it is an essential concession in the world of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies currently feature award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications successfully include numerous genres, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, all very different: building puzzles of one title, intense tile-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Which classification works between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated in any category that year
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations that year
  • A beloved organization game got ignored that year
  • Limited numbers of logic titles managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent compact experiences, but the art in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among the most-played games in the world continuing this trend for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with popular creative games for the title of highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. One could readily select five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these are games lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers function at the challenging frontier of video game design, creating some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait 35 years.
